End of an Era

As long as I can remember, Jim Sinur has been writing about BPM.  On his blog yesterday he announced that he’s retiring on May 1st:

It’s been a great run, here at Gartner, but all good things must end. I am retiring as of May 1st, 2013, but I am hoping you follow me to my new blog site below:

http://jimsinur.blogspot.com/   I hope to continue writing helpful material for you and we continue the dialogs.    My art website is the same www.james-sinur.com and I am on LinkedIn. I hope we can continue as processes and business rules expand to meet changing business demands. In the mean time I’m getting out of the normal rat race that have been pursuing for 4+ decades now. As Ozzie says “See you on the other side”

Jim’s probably published more information about BPM success stories on his blogs than anyone, and he’s done a lot of work to get the word out about the hidden successes of BPM – often companies simply don’t want to talk about the success they’re having.  There’s some justification for that attitude- they look at companies that were fairly transparent about how they were winning, e.g. Dell, and see that other companies have emulated or surpassed Dell’s initial operating prowess.  It is a cautionary tale for some.  And yet, very few companies are successful by keeping their ideas secret.  Ideas and techniques can be improved by socializing them.  The trick is not to lose sight of the learning culture in your organization – your culture and organization have to be receptive to improving “the way things are done” even if the old way has been the best way for a long time.

Looking forward to following Jim’s posts on blogspot – congrats, Jim!
