Collaboration Doesn't Replace Process

In a recent BPM.com post on BPM Quotes, this one jumped out at me:

“Not everything is a process, nor can it be written down. However, if you want something to be measured and repeatable then it needs to be documented, understood and possibly automated. The danger is that there are those who claim that in this new collaborative world nothing is a process.”
-Ian Gotts

It perfectly captures the pendulum between structure (process) and anarchy (no process).  Collaboration improves the whole spectrum, but we shouldn’t mistake collaboration (and its supporting technologies) as replacing process…
