Caring

Great article on Inc. with an unfortunately click-baiting title, on the “one thing” you can do to be a great leader.  It turns out, once you get through the parable by Jeff Haden, is this:

“No one cares how much you know until they first know how much you care about them.”

He goes on to explain that leadership starts with showing how much you care about your team, and that is what opens their minds to listening to what you think you know, your ideas for going forward, your attempts to lead.

It’s powerful advice. I’m not sure I would have thought to phrase it this way – and yet it is intuitively how we operate at BP3.  I care about the people on my team – and I see how we work hard to take care of each other – in ways that, for the most part, will always be behind the scenes. I also see how the team cares about me, personally, and that’s also something I’ll always appreciate about having the privilege of leading BP3.
