The Google #Wave Effect

I’ve received more than my share of emails about Google Wave today. Once again, Google’s “invite” magic is helping create buzz and interest in something that not everyone can get to (yet). But like Gmail, I assure you that one day we’ll all be able to get on the Wave (yes, once upon a time, you needed an invite to get a Gmail beta account).
In the midst of this buzz, the most popular post on our blog the last 3 days has been an older post on the Google Wave, Gravity, and BPM. And that’s without any twitter traffic driving it – its almost entirely search traffic.
Apparently I’ve been invited to join the wave- but so far that magical login hasn’t shown up yet. I’m not sure what happens after someone sends you an invite, but apparently it isn’t instantaneous- we’re just “nominated for consideration.” Obviously we’ll have to wait to find out how cool it is – or isn’t. Its going to be hard to live up to the hype!
I wonder if the products and services built around Wave will be more interesting than Wave itself.
