Tech gets all the Press, but Lifestyle Leads the Way

Austin’s tech and startup economies are getting all the press lately. But it is the lifestyle and festivals of Austin that are also key to bringing the growth to Austin.

After all, it is the festivals that put heads in beds in Austin’s hotels.  And Austin’s lifestyle (including tech and startups) that brings condo buyers to the downtown district to fill new condos and office buildings.

Having lived in Austin for more than 20 years, I’ve seen Austin more than double in population – but perhaps nothing signifies the degree of change in Austin more than the downtown building boom, still going strong, that started in 2001 with the building of Frost Tower downtown.

This RentCafe blog does a great job of showing side-by-side comparisons between 2007 and 2014
