Every year we recommend a few sessions at IBM's InterConnect conference.? Let 2017 be no different!? These are the recommendations for Monday, but we'll post more for Tuesday and Wednesday soon!
Before I dig into the schedule, remember to come see us on the Tradeshow floor at 5pm at booth #560!
First, kick things off right with the InterConnect keynote:
Monday, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM | Events Center | Session ID: 7308A
Your business and its future depend on cloud. Place yourself in the driver's seat -- where data works for you, industry expertise matters and open is everything. Explore artificial intelligence, security, and Internet of Things ?all on the IBM Cloud. Take back control of your cloud and join us in the Welcome to InterConnect Keynote.
At 11:15, there are a few good ones.? The Kaiser session is interesting both for the use case (philanthropy) and the application of process technology.
Philanthropic Process Orchestrations using IBM BPM and Bluemix at Kaiser Permanente
Monday, 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom K | Session ID: 1263A
Kaiser Permanente (KP) invests hundreds of millions of dollars annually in charitable funding. Not surprisingly, the KP community grants process is complicated and unique. [...]
This could well be one of the best sessions of the day if they can navigate a large panel effectively. Some great people represented on this panel, both from IBM and analyst firms. This is my vote for best session at the 11:15 hour. It includes Gary Barnett and Neil Ward-Dutton as third-party analysts.
Panel Discussion: What's Next for Business Processes and Customer-Centric Operations?
Monday, 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom L | Session ID: 3183A | Customers expect a seamless experience in all the methods of interaction. Business is changing to leverage business processes in new and innovative ways. Digital technologies are going mainstream, offering great potential to automate, augment or enhance any business process to lower costs, deliver flawless customer experiences, and improve top-line results.
In the 1pm Time slot we have a few more:
Jeff Goodhue and company typically put on a good demonstration in these sessions, I'm sure this year won't disappoint.
Transforming Processes with Cognitive Business Operations
Monday, 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM | Reef F | Session ID: 4562A
The following lab requires registration.? However, I expect it will be a good one.
Make Your Processes Cognitive by Infusing Watson Services Monday, 1:00 PM - 2:45 PM | South Seas G | Session ID: 2326A
THIS LAB REQUIRES AN IBM BLUEMIX ACCOUNT. YOU WILL NEED YOUR LOGIN ID AND PASSWORD IN THE LAB SESSION
At 2pm, our recommended sessions are:
Capturing Decisions and Models with ODM
Monday, 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM | Coral C | Session ID: 3737A
Building cognitive systems assumes capturing human expertise into decisions. This roundtable explores various approaches for this capture of knowledge. In particular, the discussion will focus on object models, vocabularies and decisions; as well as on decision models, such as the one provided by the Object Management Group's Decision Model and Notation (DMN) standard. This session is not a lecture?you can look forward to a very interactive discussion that includes the participants.
Personally I love this session - what's the point of automating if you destroy the customer experience? So automate to *improve* the customer experience instead! Jim Casey, Aaron Powell, and Michael Gilfix are presenting, so it will be a powerhouse session.
Automating Work Across the Enterprise for Stellar Customer Experience and Top-Line Results
Monday, 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom F | Session ID: 7169A
Business depends on continual innovation. But, too often, repetitive tasks and inflexible processes hamper the flow of great ideas, hinder productivity and make it hard to create?and sustain?great customer experience.
Bell Canada provides a good case-study on their Order Management journey:
Bell Canada's Order Management Journey: An IBM ODM Use Case
Monday, 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom I | Session ID: 6053A
Bell is Canada's leading ICT provider. About three years ago, Bell embarked on a massive re-engineering work program to simplify and enhance its order management processes.
In the 3:15 slot, the best session looks to be this one on the subject of Severn Trent Water - which leverages IoT and Decision Management to save millions.? Our own David Brakoniecki, Managing Director for BP3 UK/Europe, will assist:
How Severn Trent Water Uses IoT, Weather, and Decisions to Proactively Clear Sewer Line Blockages
Monday, 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom L | Session ID: 5976A
Severn Trent Water, which provides sewage services to more than 4.3 million homes and businesses, was spending nearly $13 million annually to clear 55,000 blockages throughout its lines. In 2015, Severn Trent embarked on a transformation journey to enable better management of its sewage system and prevent overflows. Using IoT connected devices, weather data, and IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM), Severn Trent is now able to detect potential problems in the sewer network and fix them before they become a sticky situation. Join this session to learn about how Severn Trent cut the cost of sewer management and saves the environment daily using next-generation technologies that are available today with IBM.
In the 4:15 slot there are another collection of good sessions. The standout of the group is Ely Lilly's session :
Why Eli Lilly Selected the IBM Process Transformation Suite to Transform Its Medical Division
Monday, 4:15 PM - 5:00 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom K | Session ID: 6135A
Robust platforms for process enablement meet complex needs; off-the-shelf offerings do not. Eli Lilly selected IBM's Process Transformation Suite to enable first-time automation of a large, complex and distributed process in a core business area. In this session, we will explore the decision dimensions driving the technology choices for this major strategic initiative. Eli Lilly takes a long view on strategic technology choices based on benefits and risks. The path to a first implementation of strategic significance in our medical division has validated our decision in selecting the IBM Process Transformation Suite.
And this session on combining BPM and ODM should also be a good one:
IBM BPM + IBM ODM = A Recipe for Business Success at PNC Bank
Monday, 4:15 PM - 5:00 PM | Mandalay Bay Ballroom I | Session ID: 4064A
And finally, Franclim Bento returns with Jean Pommier to discuss COE's for Process Transformation:
A Guide and Method to Setup a Center of Excellence for Your Process Transformation Program
Monday, 4:15 PM - 5:00 PM | Reef F | Session ID: 6527A
You don't need a Center of Excellence (CoE) to implement a single process application or decision service. But scaling from the initial project to an enterprise adoption program requires specific and appropriate organizational and process changes to succeed.
Following that, at 5pm, the Trade show floor opens-? and my personal recommendation is to join the fun there - BP3 will be at booth #560, and it is a great first run through what everyone is offering to customers on that tradeshow floor.? You'll find us in the Process Transformation space near IBM's main installation there, as the Gold sponsor for Process Transformation.
More recommendations to come for Tuesday and Wednesday in the next post!
