The Best Tacos in Austin?

Another article on the home of tacos, Austin, TX.

To hear Austinites tell it, they damn near invented the taco. They’re certainly not above declaring war over one, which Mayor Adler did, even creating an Austin Taco Day (Sept 24th).

No, sir, we didn’t invent the taco, we just perfected it. We might have invented the breakfast taco however…

The author calls out some particularly good taco houses.  First, Veracruz All Natural.  good recommendation.  In particular because it also includes a migas taco. Migas are also kind of an “Austin thing”.  I’ve never been anywhere else where *every* restaurant includes migas as an option for brunch.  I don’t just mean taco places, I’m talking Four Seasons, taco shacks, and everything inbetween.  The Veracruz migas taco is awesome.

I can also vouch personally for the Smoked Carnitas taco at Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ.  Yes, Valentina’s is fusion Tex Mex and BBQ.  Because Tex Mex wasn’t enough fusion. And because both Tex Mex and BBQ are pretty awesome in their own right.  And the tacos – divine.

I’m also a fan of the Tamale House. But the others, I’ll have to try them out!

I have to admit, it is hard to forgive the author for leaving out Chi’lantro BBQ (home of the bulgogi kim chi taco) and Peached Tortilla (home of the pork belly “banh mi” taco)…

Not joking about these tacos
