I like the premise of the brief, it really sets the tone for why this piece needed to be written:

Business process management (BPM) leaders struggle to keep pace with new methods, practices, and technologies needed to drive digital process innovation. They are turning to a new crop of boutique BPM consulting firms to close talent and technology gaps. This report explains how BPM leaders use boutique consulting firms to reinvent their programs, and it profiles five consulting firms that are stepping up to help their clients drive digital process innovation.

The role of consulting firms in the BPM and digital experience market has long been overlooked.  Forrester looks to correct this with the first solid take on this that I’ve seen by an analyst firm.

Clay rightly points out that boutique firms often punch above their weight due to their historical ties and relationships.  He also correctly points out the value of deep talent, packaged tools, and innovative techniques and methods that distinguish these BPM consultancies over the competition. Too often I’ve seen other analyst firms put too much weight on generalist consulting firms – a “one stop shop”.  But BPM is a space that has proven the adage that the jack of all trades is master at none.  These one-stop-shops have the worst failure rates in the business.  Meanwhile, specialists are creating the value for customers. 

He goes on to describe five of these firms, in more detail – BP3 figured prominently among them, though they are listed in alphabetical order.
