Four AustinStartup Articles

AustinStartup has posted three four articles recently about startups and the SXSW scene that is coming in March, worth a quick read to catch up on what’s coming, and what’s going on in the world of startups here.
  • First, Austin-based startups at the SXSW Accelerator 2012.  I’m familiar with Forecast and SceneTap but hadn’t heard of the others before this list – Tugg, Toopher, Hoot.me, and Umbel.  Nice representation from Austin in the SXSW program!
  • Second, Capital Factory is realigning its schedule for incubating startups to line up better with SXSW-interactive.  They’ll start in the late fall and line up to finish in time for an event within SXSW-interactive.  Seems like a great move to leverage Austin’s unique platform of the year.
  • Third, AustinStartup argues that ATI’s has a pulse on what’s hot in startups.  It shows big increases in software and biotech funding, but also shows a wider range of industries than I would have expected.
  • Finally, AustinStartup reports that Austin’s own Bazaarvoice has filed for its IPO.  Looks like a raise of $80M, with an implied value somewhere around $500million, according to AustinStartup.  TechCrunch has coverage as well. Expecting more coverage from the Statesman and the ABJ in the coming days and weeks.  Austin has had a nice run of local startups getting to scale and going public recently, which should be good for the startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem for years to come.
Looking forward to SXSW this year – the backdrop of startup activity is really interesting.
