The key point is that we can't forget that these people are... people!
I think you make that point quite effectively. Being anonymous absolves one of responsibility, guilt, blame... as well as of credit, gratitude, and thanks. We, as humans, need these things to nurture and grow.

Scott –

A significant cultural gap often encountered when working with offshore companies is their inherent anonymity – a dark absence of individuality where people are distilled into interchangeable skill-sets.

The offshore delivery model is an anonymous – faceless – vending machine, of sorts, where we put money in, pull the lever, and out drops software.

What I’ve discovered is that a faceless skill ends up meaning “nobody”. A generic skill has no name, is interchangeable, and boils down to a seat in front of a computer… somewhere. This results in the person (as in actual humans), realizing their faceless skill is just that, “not me” (the morbid reality of invisibility). Truth is that very little ever gets done outside of desperation.
